“Gaza Habibti: Hope and Loss”  A Pop-Up Exhibition with Panel Discussion in Philadelphia.

In conjunction with the global exhibition “Gaza Habibti: Hope and Loss,” which features the work of Gazan photographers, a panel discussion on photography within the Palestinian context was recently organized in Philadelphia.

The event included a pop-up exhibit in collaboration with the La La Lil Jidar Collective and Passages Through Genocide.

A key highlight of the event was a presentation by Untold Palestine, led by Mohamad Badarne. Untold Palestine work aims to challenge and overcome the stereotypical image of Palestinians in Western media by documenting and sharing stories from Palestine.

Which aligns with the work of La La Lil Jidar Collective, a group of artists, activists, and community organizers dedicated to shifting the mainstream narrative on Palestine that started as the photography project of the photographer and activist Aisha Mershani, who has been documenting the apartheid wall in Palestine for over 20 years.

The conversation between Mershani and Badarne centered on the role of photography in capturing and confronting the violence faced by Palestinians, as well as, sharing stories of hope and resilience to rehumanize Palestinians.

The event concluded with a reading circle, featuring passages from Passages Through Genocide.

This event is supported by Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture and in collaboration with La La Lil Jidar collective.
