A 3-day hands-on workshop focused on the art of visual storytelling through photography!The workshop aims to equip participants with fundamental photography skills and techniques for telling stories through a sequence of images. Participants will be guided through planning, shooting, and editing a photo-based story to be published on Yura's platforms.
Workshop Schedule
Day 1 | Basic photography and storytelling technique
- Understanding composition, lighting, shot types, and photography style
- What makes a good story? Telling stories through photo sequences
Day 2 | Practice & Story Discovery
- Group brainstorming and/or a community photowalk
- Finding compelling stories and characters in the local context
- Participants begin working on their own stories
Day 3 | Story Development & Feedback
- Sequencing, writing, editing, and presenting visual stories
- Group feedback and final touches
Instructor: Jihad Jneid
Jihad is a documentarian, video journalist, and producer focused on conflict and hostile environments in the Middle East. For the past decade, I’ve covered wars in Syria and Iraq from the ground followed the rise and fall of ISIS, documented the Yazidi genocide, and worked on stories about the Kurdish struggle in Syria. Jneid is interested in the human side of stories often overlooked by mainstream media, combining collaborations with both local and international outlets. Most recently, he have extensively covered the Israeli war on South Lebanon and the fall of Al-Assad regime in Syria, while keeping an eye out for underreported stories related to migration and refugees in the region.
